Growing Spiritually

Spiritual growth begins with a decision – a commitment. If you want to get in shape physically, you start with a decision to begin eating better and working out. It’s the same way spiritually. You must decide in your heart and mind that you are going to do those things that result in spiritual growth. Growing spiritually requires work. So, few grow spiritually because they view it as something they passively receive. In fact growth is something you must actively pursue. So it all begins with a commitment to grow.

At First Baptist Church we have Emerge Ministry classes, groups, and ministry teams to begin exploring your new life in Christ and getting involved in the life of His church.

Here are some commitments involved in growing spiritually:

I regularly pray for and invite friends and others to First Baptist Church.
…go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Matthew 28:19 NLT

I actively participate in a First Baptist Church.
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.  And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another…  Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT

I regularly read my Bible and pray.
Like newborn babies hungry for milk, you should want the pure teaching that feeds your spirit. With it you can grow up and be saved1 Peter 2:2 ERV

I serve in a ministry at First Baptist Church where I am needed and comfortable.
…He handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher to train Christians in skilled servant work, working within Christ’s body, the church.  Ephesians 4:11-13 MSG

I worship at First Baptist Church on the Sundays when I am in town.
On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people...  Acts 20:7 NIV84

I give a regular offering in a God-honoring way at First Baptist Church.
On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income  1 Corinthians 16:2 NIV84

I obey – I do the next right thing – what is my next step?
Knowing the correct password — saying ‘Master, Master,’ for instance — isn’t going to get you anywhere with me. What is required is serious obedience — doing what my Father wills.  Matthew 7:21-22 MSG
